BioBased Soy-Themed Booth Resonates with Greenbuild Attendees, Industry Leaders Stop By to “Putt, Stand and Play on Soy”

DALTON, Ga. – Dec. 3, 2010 – Universal Textile Technologies™ (UTT), the carpet industry’s recognized leader in backing systems innovation and development, along with flooring and surfacing leaders AstroTurf®, EcoPath™ and SYNLawn®, recently returned from showcasing at the world’s largest green building exhibit hall, Chicago's McCormick Place West, for the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, Nov. 16-18, where more than 27,000 attendees from 112 countries attended educational sessions, networked and redefined the future of the green building industry.

In summarizing his experience, Doug Giles of UTT observed that the 2010 Greenbuild show, titled Generation Green: Redefining Our Future, “focused on many reoccurring subjects, but none more powerful than leadership and the future of the green innovation, both which were eloquently explored by former Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell in his keynote address.”

These same concepts are at the core of UTT’s biobased technologies and co-exhibitor EcoPath’s line of sustainable and perpetually recyclable entryway matting products.

“Supporting a vital movement such as Greenbuild and bringing to market a green product that outperforms its predecessors by delivering on all the attributes and qualities the label implies is extremely important to us. We have committed our company to state the facts properly and not embellish the environmental impact. We take pride in saying what we do and doing what we say,” explains Jack Lindsay, vice president of sales for ECS, parent company of EcoPath™. “Utilizing Bio Preferred soy as well as post-consumer water bottles (PET), EcoPath is engineered to outlast, outperform and have the least impact on our environment as possible. We are proud of the EcoPath product line and the true innovation it brings to the matting industry. How often do you see products that capture contaminants yet avoid contaminating our surroundings? EcoPath does just that and much more.”

The Proof is in the Soy

UTT’s biobased backings are made from renewable and recovered materials and some contain an average of four post-consumer recycled plastic bottles (PET) per square yard on carpet products. Biobased polymers in UTT’s green backings are made from domestically-grown soybeans replacing a portion of the petroleum-based polyols found in regular polyurethane backing. UTT uses soybean oil extracted from soybeans, stabilized by removing gums and waxes, and converted into a polymer. This polymer becomes an integral part of synthetic turf and carpet backings and helps lock the turf and carpet fibers into place.

New Uses Program Manager for the United States Soybean Board, Mike Erker, notes, “The United Soybean board and the 600,000 member farmers are very pleased to see the innovative uses of soy technology this amazing team has developed. The USB New Uses Committee has worked in conjunction with Universal Textile Technologies from the early stages and to see the creativity this seed generated is something our American farm community is proud to be a part of.”

This soybean chemistry and added product stability can be found in a variety of commercial and residential flooring products as seen in the soy-themed co-branded exhibit hosted at Greenbuild 2010 by UTT, EcoPath™, AstroTurf®, makers of premium synthetic sports turf, and SYNLawn®, makers of artificial landscape grass and putting greens. The booth display was comprised of three corresponding 10 ft by 10 ft framed backdrops, each featuring one of the three UTT affiliated brands. The overall booth design was anchored by plush and brightly colored flooring in each of the three product brands, carrying through the soy theme and literally allowing booth visitors to try their putting skills on a SYNLawn® putting green, take a break from the unforgiving exhibit hall floor with the comfort provided by EcoPath™ entryway matting, and last, but not least, experiencing the touch and feel of the first and most technologically advanced sports turf in the world, AstroTurf®.

New Look and Message Support Brand’s Unwavering Principles and Benefits

Dalton, Ga. (Sept. 16, 2010) – EcoPath™, the world’s first perpetually recyclable entryway matting solution made from environmentally friendly products and biobased content, today unveiled a new brand and creative identity that focuses on its green and clean benefits.

“Some customers choose EcoPath for the superior quality we provide at manufacturer direct savings, some for the lasting impressions we create, and others because our products contribute to certified green standards,” said Jack Lindsay, vice president of sales of Engineered Conversion Systems (ECS), parent company of EcoPath. “Our new look and feel needed to accurately convey not only what we are as a product line but also who we are to our clients – a solution to help them with their facility management needs.”

The rebrand initiative incorporates a new messaging platform, logos, creative and a website overhaul, which anchor the new identity to EcoPath’s differentiators and culture. Some overarching brand principles include:

The “control” that EcoPath provides facility managers and owners, minimizing issues such as slips and falls, tracked grime and moisture damage; and maximizing qualities such as style, product durability and green sustainability

Made from natural and recycled products, EcoPath is the first 100 percent perpetually recyclable matting solution with biobased content derived from domestically-grown soybeans. When a mat needs to be replaced, it is simply recycled into other company products – nothing is wasted or is harmful to the environment, and nothing ends in a landfill.

Produced by skilled craftsmen using the latest state-of-the-art custom-designed manufacturing equipment, EcoPath features superior quality.

Taking the brand to market through a team of professional sales consultants focused on solving customer needs

Made in the U.S. and factory direct, cutting out middlemen markups

Delivering on its green promise, EcoPath entryway matting solution is backed with EnviroCel™, which contains recycled, recovered and renewable materials that are 60 to 70 percent green by weight, and BioGrip™, a 100 percent post-consumer recycled secondary backing made from recycled (PET – polyethylene therephthalate polyester) plastic bottles with a non-skid natural rubber. Such product traits positioned EcoPath among the “Top Five Green Products for Retail and Business Interiors” at the 2009 Greenbuild® International Conference and Expo.

EcoPath helps facilities achieve their highest green potential by contributing toward U.S. Green Building Council LEED certification for at least 10 different credits under the Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation & Design Process sections.

In addition to EcoPath’s green components, its manufacturer, ECS, takes part in a sophisticated recycling program that converts used EcoPath mats into components of other products made by ECS sister companies – ensuring that nothing is wasted or ends up in a landfill.

“We not only deliver on our customers’ needs, we also practice what we preach,” added Lindsay.

Dalton, GA (May 27, 2010) EcoPath™ Sustainable Entryway Systems has teamed up with the Washington State Convention Center to provide an environmentally friendly solution for the entryway mats in their buildings. The Washington State Convention Center knew they needed new high-quality mats in their buildings, but they also wanted a product that would contribute to the building's LEED® total. After researching the market and looking at the available options, Washington State Convention Center decided to go with EcoPath™. EcoPath™ provided 15 separate EcoRib mats for the entryways into the convention center. EcoRib is one of the styles available from EcoPath™ and is designed to channel water and trap wet or dry dirt.

EcoPath™ Sustainable Entryway Systems come with an EnviroCel™ polyurethane backing. EnviroCel™ is constructed from recycled, recovered and renewable materials that are 60% to 70% green by backing weight. The renewable materials in EnviroCel™ replace large percentages of petroleum based components in its polyurethane chemistry with soybean based polyols. EnviroCel™ contains Celceram® as well. Celceram® is a recovered pre-consumer recycled mineral compound that enhances the performance of the product and contributes to the overall environmental friendliness of the mats.

"I really appreciate the attention to detail and the level of customer service the EcoPath™ team provided during the selection process. The product that was delivered exceeded our expectations from a quality and cost perspective. EcoPath™ made the decision to go 'Green' easy."– Ed Barnes, Vice President of Operations, Washington State Convention Center.

EcoPath™ Sustainable Entryway Systems are manufactured by Accucut, a division of Engineered Conversion Systems (ECS). Since 1994, Accucut has offered an extensive selection of high quality mats that combine the latest innovations in manufacturing, technology, and materials combined with superior workmanship and outstanding service.
